Herbalife Ltd., the producer of dietary supplements accused of fraud by scientists recently, stated Chief Operating Officer Gregory Probert resigned after faking an academic qualification on his resume.

Other employees took over Probert's responsibilities, the organization stated today inside a statement. Caymans-based Herbalife also reported a greater-than-believed 69 percent grow in first-quarter profit and elevated its annual earnings forecast.

Herbalife joins a listing of companies from RadioShack Corp. to InterContinental Hotels Group Plc which have severed ties with managers who lied regarding their resumes. Probert, who resigned yesterday, signed up for the Masters of economic Administration program at California State College, Los Angeles, though he never acquired a diploma, the organization stated a week ago.

"Greg made substantial contributions to Herbalife," Ceo Michael Manley stated within the statement. "The conditions surrounding his resignation are disappointing."

Probert, an old Wally Disney Co. executive, was hired to his position at Herbalife in 2003. A mobile phone call to Probert's office seeking comment wasn't immediately came back.

Net gain rose to $62.4 million, or 93 cents a share, from $41.two million, or 55 cents, last year, Herbalife stated. It had been likely to earn 73 cents a share, based on four analyst estimations put together by Bloomberg. Sales rose 19 percent to $604.4 million as all five from the company's regions reported positive growth.

Earnings Forecast

Annual per-share profit is going to be between $3.52 and $3.57, based on Herbalife, which forecast second-quarter earnings of 89 cents to 92 cents on a single basis. The predictions for diluted earnings reflect currency actions and taxes.

Herbalife rose $1.36, or 3.2 percent, to $43.78 in New York Stock Market composite buying and selling yesterday. The stock's gain extended the 2010 advance to eight.7 percent.

David Edmondson walked lower as Boss of RadioShack, the 3rd-biggest U.S. store of electronics, in Feb 2006. InterContinental, who owns the vacation Motel lodging brand, stated in June of this past year Patrick Imbardelli had resigned as mind of their Asia-Off-shore division.

Herbalife has refused a study released recently through the North Park-based Fraud Discovery Institute proclaiming that actions at the organization elevated suspicion about financial crimes.

The supplements maker sponsors Los Angeles Universe, the team whose roster includes star midfielder David Beckham, to keep its brand within the public eye.
